The story revolves around Nanase Haruka, a boy who has always loved to be immersed in water, and to swim in it. Before graduating from elementary school, he participated in a swimming tournament along with his fellow swimming club members, Tachibana Makoto, Hazuki Nagisa, and Matsuoka Rin. After achieving victory, each of the boys went their separate ways.Time passed, and in the middle of their uneventful high school lives Rin appears and challenges Haruka to a match, showing Haruka his overwhelming power. Not wanting it to end like this, Haruka, gathers together Makoto and Nagisa once again and brings a new member named Rei Ryugazaki to create the Iwatobi High School Swimming Club in order to defeat Rin.
My Thoughts
Free! was the perfect anime for the summer times. It features swimming, great relationships, and uh.. sexy half-naked boys? Haha, sexy boys will never hurt.
Now it might seem like the watchers of this anime are mostly girls (which is probably true), but this anime definitely a lot deeper than that. It shows the relationships between all of them and it explains their past together as well. It's all very emotional! At the beginning we're all getting to know the characters, but at the end, you would find yourself cheering for them and crying for them.
Their past were explained very well and they had all grown up together expect for Rei. At the beginning, we slowly got to know them and there were more and more flashbacks when you get into the season. This anime really shows friendship and what it means to be a team. I would recommend it to everyone to watch. The most emotional part was the last episode, when they were competing in the regionals. The ending was satisfying and I loved it every step of the way. I couldn't have asked for a better ending.
I would recommend this anime to everyone, so definitely give this a try. The lovely view doesn't hurt either ;)
