The Devil is a Part-Timer!
はたらく魔王さま!
Hataraku Maou-sama!
Genre: fantasy, romance, comedy
Adaptation: Light Novels, Manga
Aired: Apr 4 / 2013 - Jun 27 / 2013
Devil King Sadao is only one step away from conquering the world when he is beaten by Hero Emilia and forced to drift to the other world: modern-day Tokyo. As "conquering the world" are the only skills the Devil King possesses—and are obviously unnecessary in his new situation—he must work as a freeter to pay for his living expenses!

Opening & Ending Song

I really like the opening song. As for the ending, the voice really annoys me and I don't like it that much.
My Thoughts

Hataraku Maou-sama is a hilarious romantic comedy mixed with fantasy. Even though it's a comedy, it's also got a serious side. I felt like all the jokes and moments were executed just right so that it's perfect.
Maou is the devil of a fantasy world called Ente Isla. He almost conquered that world but had to flee when he was almost defeated by the Hero Emilia. From the gate of Ente Isla, they got dumped into modern Japan, where they had to learn Japanese and how to survive in the modern world. Maou got an entry level job at MgRonald's and began to work there.
Seeing that he's the devil, he's quite kind to others and is very passionate about his job at MgRonald's. Maou is definitely a character to be appreciated. He's turned from his dark ways into someone better in japan. He is quite unsensitive and oblivious to a girl's feelings though. *sigh* Maou jokes around a lot and can always brighten the mood with his friends.

All of Maou's friends are in the picture above. From left to right: Suzuno, Urushihara (Lucifer), Ashiya (Alceil), Chiho, Emi (Hero Emilia), and Maou (Satan). Suzuno is really old-fashioned and can cook really well. She has an awesome weapon!!! It's a gigantic hammer haha. She always talks really politely and I like how she learns a lesson at the end of the season. Urushihara is quite the hacker and just stays at home all day. He's a shut-in and loves "wasting their finances" online. It's funny how he always gets in trouble. He's lazy but can be smart as hell when he decides to be. Ashiya becomes the housewife when they landed in Japan. He has such respect for Maou and it was funny when he had his extreme stomach pains. Chiho is really kawaii :3 She's so cute and I kind of feel sorry for her for having a crush on Maou. Emi has a love-hate relationship with Maou. Everywhere they go, people think they're exes. It's so funny when she gets really worked up over that. She's learned to change her views about her nemesis since she came to Japan and I think that growth is good for her.

The hilarious moments keeps the plot moving but there's also trouble sturring in Ente Isla that the gang needs to fix. Ente Isla used to have problems with demons (back when Maou was trying to conquer the land) but now their problem lies within the governement / the Church. The gang has to solve that problem and keep peace in both worlds.

Hataraku Maou-sama! is a really funny anime that had me laughing until my stomach hurts. I couldn't stop watching until the final episode! (Dammit though, had to wait a week for new ones to air, WHY) I would recommend this for all anime lovers who would love a good laugh.

  1. Lol MgRonald?

I love the art and I'm a sucker for manga/anime with beautiful drawing! Especially the second picture :P

This does sound good! Some animes have awesome beginning but it gets a bit dragging toward the end. It seems like that's not the case with this one if you thoroughly enjoyed it :D
